How to choose training hospital for Housemanship?

How will you know which hospital is perfect for your housemanship?

Do not underestimate any department, especially

- Pediatrics

- Obstetric and gynaecology

What to expect from your hospital?

1. Exposure (Available cases in the hospital - depends on the area and specialties that they have)

2. Opportunity to practice clinical procedures

3. Workload (almost the same for all the hospital)

4. Teaching/ mentoring of training (some hospital has doctors who are more willing to teach than the others.)

5. Working environment, eg: malignant seniors? malignant teachers? 

6. Computerised vs traditional vs hybrid system

    - Computerised system:

• no file but only using laptop
• copy paste and edit allow
• easy to trace result
• hang laptop
• UM can bring your own laptop to access

    - traditional system

• - must use original mindset
• - good training
• - have to write the summary
• - trace result will take a long time

    - most people likes traditional, you can judge its good and bad

    - most of hospital are hybrid- both laptop used and file

Rate of extension

    - some hospital has higher extension rate
    - didn't give log book, bad attitude issue
    - choose to extend by themselves

Emotional support

1. This is part of the support system that is crucial to ensure your growth as a christian as well

Being a houseman and busy working could threaten and cause someone to lose the plot and their original intention. It applies the same to everyone, when you are busy working, we tend to forget what is the original purpose for us to want to become a doctor. (The Workaholic)

2. Start surveying and look around if there are any church available that you could visit, attend and possibly serve in the future. Google map is a good place to start with. 

3. Any evangelistic opportunities available in the area.

 

4. Survey for bible study groups available in the area if possible. 

5. Check and start asking if you have any relatives staying around the area too. Time to reunite and know your distant/close relatives better.

Food support

As a Malaysian in malaysia, everywhere has good food, so this is not the major concern here. 

What is the best hospital ?

1. Near to your support system or has a support system (church). 

2. Any hosppital that fits the criteria above the most.

Training centers available for HO (house officer)

I got it from someone else, it might not be complete. 

Keep in mind that you might not always get what you want. Even if it is somewhere you least expect to get, it is never the end of the world. In fact, it is all God's plan. We should not let all the negative emotions hold us back but to remember the main plot, of us being god's children and persevere till the end !
